Bayou City Art Festival

TODAY through Sunday! is Houston's infamous Bayou City Art Festival ... this year I probably wont make it but last year we had a great time walking through downtown and seeing all the great artists. all different type of mediums, oil, wood, metal sculpture, furniture, jewelry etc... , from little pieces to much much larger pieces, you should be able to find something that suits you, if not its nice just to get out into the world and take in some culture. Not just for adults there are art stations set up in a part of downtown for kids, its a very fun event!

Click on the Event artist and it will take you to Bayoucityartfestival.com for more info on this weekend!

Brief Bio of this 86 year old man... just because he is interesting.

After graduating from Sam Houston State University with degrees in both math and physics in 1948, Adickes went to the Kansas City Art Institute. He studied painting there, and then went to Paris where he studied art for two years.

He returned briefly to Houston in 1951, but was soon off to Paris, Barcelona and Tahiti. Returning to his native land, Adickes taught art at the University of Texas in Austin.
In 1957, he lived for a year in Japan and then traveled extensively over the next 10 years in the Far East, Mid East, Europe, Russia and North Africa.
His oils and sculptures are displayed in ten major art museums across America and in many countries, as well as private collections.

Cheaper Whitening Solution?!

I thought this was interesting, haven't gotten to try it yet

7. Brighten Your Smile
Mix your own whitener
Brushing with a paste made of baking soda and water a few times a month removes superficial staining and whitens teeth by a shade or two. "The graininess neutralizes stains and polishes teeth but isn't abrasive enough to wear down your enamel," says Jennifer Jablow, DDS, a cosmetic dentist in New York City.
Keep teeth whiter, longer
To sidestep stains when drinking red wine, chase your vino with a handful of crunchy raw vegetables. They have a brushing action that can rub away newly setting stains
Choose the right lipstick shade
"Colors with blue undertones make teeth appear brighter," explains Liebeskind. To figure out which of your lipsticks fit the bill, she recommends lining up three or four shades—in comparison to each other, it will be more obvious which are blue-based and which have yellow or gold undertones that bring out the yellow in teeth.

Health Care Reform Bill

Well... if you didn't already know.. today is the day that we will see Obama's Health care reform bill passed into law or not.

Democrats need 216 votes to pass each one. With all 178 Republicans and at least two dozen Democrats vowing to vote no, the legislation's fate lay in the hands of the Democrats who remained uncommitted ahead of Sunday's vote.

If Democratic leaders prevail on all three House votes, Obama could sign the Senate version of the bill into law. The bill of "fixes" would go to the Senate under fast-track debate rules, called reconciliation, that would enable Democrats to pass it without facing a Republican filibuster.

The legislation, affecting virtually every American and more than a year in the making, would extend coverage to an estimated 32 million uninsured, bar insurers from denying coverage on the basis of existing medical conditions and cut federal deficits by an estimated $138 billion over a decade.

* I understand the need for more people to get insured and I would agree in not allowing the insurance companies to deny some with already pre existing medical conditions.. but really... im on the fence on this one.. its always hard for me to really believe the government when they say they are trying to do something for the people.. they always have a hidden agenda...*

post comments as you wish.

Ropes with rings and knots on strings
Jason and Jessica have created a palette of different and sumptuous jewelry ranging from chunky knit necklaces with draping chain to thinner knits, diaphanous in texture.

The label is Lilahgabriel. It brings together the talents of a husband and wife who are young and growing in their ability and inspiration. Jason brings with him extensive experience in jewelry design and jewelry making. Jessica, a Pratt graduate, has terrific experience in fashion and graphic design and in the making of apparel. They have made each piece a balance of function and form. The materials and their construction meld to complement each other and the individual wearing it.

Lilahgabriel uses silks, organzas, leather, denim, and metals. The different recipes result in rich saturated colors in pieces that look so natural. The metals are intense but don’t dominate. Look through the collection and you will see how classical materials are used in harmony with a modern, unique style.

It’s a collection that truly reflects the unpretentious talents of its creators.
